I've always been a maker. A taker-aparter. You know, just to see how things worked. I was the kid who took apart the toaster to see its guts, but then never got around to putting it back together. Too many other things to investigate.
I went to RISD, majoring in Industrial Design, honing my critical thinking, and my making. Wood shop, metal shop, drawing, 2- and 3- dimensional design principles... my time in school built upon my visceral need to know how things work, how to build them, and of course, how to take them apart.
A lot of the things I've made and sold started out as things I wanted to buy but couldn't find EXACTLY the perfect thing. I made chainmaille because I wanted a SPECIFIC bracelet. I made my coffee table because I couldn't find what I saw in my mind in any stores. I designed shirts, because I couldn't find the perfect one for a concert. I made stickers and yard signs because the message I had to share was resonating with folks.
And now, photography - I started out photographing my daughters playing soccer and basketball, and collecting photos of things I find fascinating (cactus around my in-laws in Arizona, beautiful doors in Rome, the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, cows in the Italian Alps, sunsets in Costa Rica).
I started calling my work Design for All of Us, because design should be something we all can enjoy, participate in the making of, and share.
If there's something you see and want SLIGHTLY different - size, material, etc - reach out and I'll do my best to get you that perfect piece.
